What’s a good GPA in college?

After you’ve graduated from high school or earned your GED, the doors of universities and colleges will open up for you. If you thought your GPA stopped mattering once you entered college, I’m sorry to tell you that you’re wrong.

Colleges themselves will use your GPA for a variety of things — you’ll need a good GPA to stay in good academic standing, and your financial aid and scholarships will probably have a minimum GPA that you need to stay above. Sports may require a specific GPA, and other awards and bonuses will be given out according to your GPA. At graduation, different honors may also be assigned to you as well.

Your GPA (grade point average) can be calculated if you divide all earned grade points by the number of attempted credit hours. Your GPA may be ranging from 0.0 to 4.0.

The Importance of a College Degree

In this post, we’ll take a closer look at the importance of a College Degree. Today, even most entry-level positions require applicants to hold more than just a high school or GED diploma. Some sort of post-secondary education has become a pure necessity. Just look at the advantages.

1. Get Better Job and Graduate Study Opportunities

The most important reason is, you guessed it, money! Right out of college, people with Bachelor’s degrees earn on average $23,000 more than people armed with only high school diplomas.

I could write about how newspapers and the media at large are going on about unemployment and how dim job prospects are for new graduates, but you probably wouldn’t bother to read it anyway, so I’ll just skip that part.

But the important thing for you to note is (and read this carefully): You are not a statistic. You can get any job that you want right out of college if you work hard enough and show your value to employers.

Even if your degree in itself may not mean anything, if you graduate at the top of your class with a 4.0 GPA, you’ve shown that you’re capable of doing anything you set your mind to and can do great things for whatever company you work for and that’s attractive as hell to potential employers.
